I just noticed this sticker on my gas tank cover on my X5M60i.
Anyone got any explanations? Just curious.
And Castrol oil or what we it is now printed on oil cap.
new cars now come with ads… yay
I worked for bmw for nearly a decade. Before these stickers tech support always recommended Shell, at least here in Canada. No ethanol, fewer additives, etc. We had so many more issue with cars running other brands, especially Petro-Canada in the winter.
They added the sticker because Castrol was outbid and had to do it on the fly.
Worked for bmw when it happened.
They changed the intended oil weight in on the e39 m5 because of what was available
I’ve exclusively used shell 93 for years now across multiple cars and haven’t had any issue
I recommend top tier detergent gasoline, but don’t shop exclusively Shell
I only got Quick trip Oncue Casey Phillips 7/11 very rarely Shell.
Exxon 93 is the jam
Probably for the same reason that Volkswagen Audi how a castrol emblem on the oil cap.
Partnerships or sponsorships.
shell does have the best gas
When you buy Shell diesel for example, you are not just buying a fuel, you are buying a technology for the engine of your car. Shell put additives into the fuel that cleans and conditions the engine, improving performance and economy, that is why I choose to pay more.
That cheap diesel you use does your engine more harm than good, it lowers performance, and fuel economy, and fills your petrol tank with gunk.
Speaking of which, never run your car down to E. Bingo fuel for me, is always a quarter of a tank, not one drop less. I cycle thirty litres of regular and VPower, and my car runs like a dream, it has performance, and economy.
Shell 91 and liquimoly
So it suggests 91, but it’s ok to use 89? Non-M driver here…
best to just use 91 or 93
BMW has a deal with shell to put that on their cars. Similar to how they recommend Castrol oil
Some say Valvoline depending on the year!
BP (Castrol) paid to have that recommendation during the E9x era. Starting with the F generation, it’s been Shell. The “OEM” BMW oil is made by Shell as well.
Just objectively wrong lol. Castrol (BP) is the current oil producer for BMW, hasn’t been Shell for several years. Same as the OE coolant is made by Zerex (Valvoline)
Starting with the F generation, it’s been Shell.
My 2012 F30 manual recommends Castrol…
It was around the time the F80 came out, so 2014
Not gonna lie Shell does it best for me. Here in Canada options are shit/limited. It all started when i drove down to Miami and used Shell and noticed a positive feedback from the engine response slightly different but noticable. Now here in Trudeau Land we have Shell 91 and that’s pretty much all i use
