Are you looking for a faster car with mods because the M340i can get insanely fast with a downpipe and tune.

Really depends what you’re looking for tbh. Newer car with new features and maybe a warranty and comforts or a classic.

Both choices you can’t really go wrong with.

I’m not the guy you’re replying to, but my experience -

Bought a 2015 F82 in Jan 2020 with 27k miles. Just ticked over 80k. About half of those miles are daily driving, the other half road trips and long distance travel in the western US. I’ve had roughly… 0 actual repair costs thus far. I pre-emptively replaced the stock plastic charge pipes with VRSF aluminum ones when I first bought it. During fitting of those is the only time I’ve thrown a reduced power CEL because I didn’t have em seated correctly. Yet to see the actual scary CEL on her.

Other than that? Regular oil and filter changes ($80-$100), rear diff fluid once ($150ish at the time), a couple of sets of plugs and one set of coils (that I probably could have easily stretched and done plugs once and coils never - they weren’t misfiring or anything and looked pretty okay). The plugs are expensive M plugs - $25/ea. Coils are the same thing found in most other BMW engines of the same era and are not - less than the plugs, $20/ea give or take!

About the most expensive thing so far was just doing rotors all around with the latest pad change. ~$1600 for 4 rotors and 2 pairs of pads.

I expect at some point before 100K, probably soon, I will have to do the valve cover and/or oil filter housing gasket as my first proper repair. Probably around $1000 in parts for the new cover, gaskets, etc

So, I guess in summary - a lot of the consumables are a lot more expensive than they would be on comparable F30. But as far as reliability goes? Have nothing but good things to say about the F8x and the S55

If you want to talk about expensive repairs, I can tell you about my 2013 X6M…

Tell them you won’t buy a car that includes subscriptions to unlock using anything you’ve already paid for, then go buy something else.

That’s actually pretty tough. The G20 would 100% be a better fast/sporty daily driver. But the F80 is gorgeous and performs even better overall.

If you can see yourself doing any track days or hitting up some twisty roads for fun, definitely go with the F80. If not, the G20’s your best bet. That’s my take 👍

As someone who had an F23 M240 and always wanted an F8x whether it’s M2C, M3 or M4. I’d have to say it comes down to these two priorities. Do you want something that feels like home, but better in every way driving dynamics? Or do you want technology and comfort, with the same powertrain path you’re in now? For me, I chose M2C when the chance came (I work at a BMW dealer so I got really lucky), and I couldn’t imaging going back.

Doing a full, true M, will have its cons. 1. It’ll taint your perspective and you’ll not wanna drive anything less, or when/if you do you’ll feel something lacking or less. 2. The parts costs are extra in every way, but it’s for a reason of course. Pros, well you know the pros to it 😉, it’s everything driving dynamics, it’s all pushed up to a much higher bar. It’s quicker in response, it’s tighter, it’s more agile, it’s more confidently toss-able, etc.

My credit is someone who’s been with the brand for a decade and drove everything under the sun they made in the last 30 years whether it’s clean examples or hunks. I’m not saying I’m BMW Jesus, but I’m just dropping my two cents.

Welll that all depends on what you want to spend. There’s a pretty big difference in M Performance vs M Power. In handling, horsepower, and of course price.

I mean I’m prolly gonna get sum backlash for this but I’m taking the M340i, it’s not that I don’t like the F80 M3, F80 ageless design, I just prefer the sound of the B58 more, that and the design of the G20. Had u said G80 than my opinion would be different.

F80 with a pinned crankhub replacement, and a CSF air to water intercooler is a very reliable daily if you don’t abuse it like a jerk 🤓
