“Nerdy social misfit Wanda Saknussemm is devastated when her boyfriend dumps her because she lacks a sense of adventure. Then she has been informed that her father, an archaeologist, has disappeared on an expedition in North Africa. She goes in search of her missing father and, before long, finds herself in a bizarre underground world where crazy subterranean creatures think she is a secret agent and want her dead. Thwarting them at every turn, Wanda discovers an inner strength she never knew she had before her arrival. But once the denizens of the underground have their way, she will never find her father - or see the light of day in sunny Malibu - again.”
This is a boring movie that tried to do something different but had too many changes behind the scenes to keep it coherent. In the end it’s hard to not feel pity for Albert Pyun and probably Kathy Ireland. They both did the best they could, and it shows, but the producers had the final say and it shows.
I remember watching this as a kid. I was too young to know that some psychopaths just released horrible movies.
Young Ireland’s voice was a hard pill to swallow.
MST3K and Rifftrax have riffed this movie. I actually watched it while snowed in this week. Not a bad watch with the added commentary, in the sweet-spot of 80’s cheese.
A few years later she played an alien warrior in Mom and Dad Save the World. Jon Lovitz has some great laughs in that one!
