I was recently banned from the subreddit, r/Robinhood for making a comment about Robinhood’s shady practices. I quoted their own rule, “Don’t be you”, calling them hypocrites, and received a 7 day ban from Reddit the following day.

How can we draw attention to Reddit supporting a subreddit whose very rules promote and protect intolerance and harassment?

I encourage you to message Reddit directly and report this community.

A lot of Lemmy users are here because we left reddit. However, it’s kind of an unspoken rule that we don’t really talk about it. People would rather focus on making Lemmy good by talking about things other than Reddit. I am sorry you had a bad experience at Reddit. I did too. But say “Goosfraba” and move on with enjoying a Reddit-less life. Welcome to Lemmy!

Does that include celebrating r/Wallstreetbets shorting the fuck out of Reddit’s IPO?

Thanks for the welcome! People need to critically understand the implications here instead of blindly excusing it because of status quo.

Not discussing Reddit makes sense except when it comes to protecting others. I feel this is an important issue for the community to be aware of, because it is similar to the r/Conservative subreddit that eventually got shut down due to cultivating toxic rhetoric.

This “Don’t be you” rule allows the community to be a breeding ground for intolerance and hate towards vulnerable communities, and Reddit is not only allowing it, but supporting it through bans.

Oh, we understand plenty. The insanity of mods regarding the lack of transparency or consistency of upholding rules is why we branched out. The bots and API bullshit are we don’t go back.

Avoiding being a circlejerk of complaining about Reddit is why we mostly avoid the topic.

I really don’t give a fuck about what reddit did or didn’t do. Keep the reddit shit on reddit.

That’s an interesting reaction. Are we to keep harmful things that conservatives are doing on conservative forums?

Yeah, unfortunately I’ve seen many leftist people say ‘paradox of tolerance’ and use that as an excuse to be intolerant.

Sounds like you are either giving half of the story, or you don’t know what the paradox is, because the only excuse for being intolerant under the paradox of tolerance is to be intolerant to bigoted fascist racist oppressive intolerant assholes.
