    ELI5 - feels like a little create water in the enemies lungs would work nicely. why isn’t this acceptable?

      Rules for spell necessitate a direct line of sight to the target or the point of origin of the spell for you to be able to cast the spell.

      You can’t see the lungs of a creature.

      Because the specifics of the spell in the rules prohibit it. Also, it can wind up being an extremely cheap way to deal with enemies once it is allowed. ETA: The specifics are that a creature is a creature, not a container.

      A line of reasoning I have used to mollify players seeking a wacky power jump: “If it was that easy, everyone would do it and the setting would reflect that. You are not the first wizard.”

    If they can do it within the wording of the spell “In an open container” or “fall as rain” then yes. For example if the foe is stuck inside a container, then it’s gonna be welcome to Drown Town.

    We don’t use rule of cool at all generally but diegetic positioning is delicious.
