    Ahh… part of me misses the analog days, when you could almost build a radio with stuff you found lying around the house.

    It’s already been 6 years since FM was switched off (Norway), all that remains now is long wave.

    Analog satellite, too, before encryption. With a motorized dish and a tuner you could watch the world, so to speak. So much fun scanning the skies for satellites and seeing what channels they held.

    I built one of these many years back for my HDTV. Since then I’ve dropped hundreds of dollars on aftermarket antennas and none of them have come close to the reception quality I had with that design.

    Anyone know why the “cat-whisker” design is the form of choice for HDTV? You wouldn’t see an antenna like this for any other radio frequencies. Old TV’s had rabbit ears or loops or yagis mounted on the roof… Just wondering what’s special about this design, given that Over The Air HDTV is largely using similar frequencies.
