I have an Fairphone 3. I changed the screen once and the battery twice. It is not cheap. But neither is child labor, in the long run.

Yeah, you’re almost always sacrificing something when you support the underdog, but I’m fortunate enough to have the means to vote with my wallet and the motivation to deal with any inconveniences

If I had more disposable income I’d totally give it a try. At present, I feel too bad about potentially wasting money.

Hardware & OS is just one side of the story. The fact that it does not support Play Store seems an unwise choice.

Feels like it’s just replacing one locked in eco system for another.

This will cause defiantly cause issues for users that are maybe not as tech savvy. Imagine my nan rolling up to a support kiosk asking for help with the Apps, or asking for that app that all the girls in the bowls club talk on? Yeah nah!

Organisations will view this stack as a bit off the reserve and mostly likely will be hesitant to release APK. I like the App Lounge as another option. People like options, right?

I feel that enabling Goggle Play on the device/OS will bring it as a major mainstream contender. Without it, it will remain in the realm similar to the Linux user base, limited to knowledgeable early adopters and highly proficient users.

Why are they selling the deGoogled version? I like fair trade, but I’m also hooked on Google.

This is a repost, I’m afraid that you will have to delete your post so everyone can keep conversation in one place. Thank you.

Edit: Nope, my bad! I take it back!!! You guys linked to the same site about similar topic but those are different articles, post stays.

Edit2: Now I see that the other poster shared a NEW news but linked to a 2 year old article, now I’m confused xD

LAWL, the other post inspired me to check on the status of Fairphone availability in the USA since it’d been a while.

I recently rescued a Pixel 6 in new-ish condition that was factory reset protected (FRP), but didn’t have the exploit to bypass FRP patched. I loaded it with GrapheneOS so I won’t have an excuse to monetarily support Fairphone until I can no longer repair this bad boi, but maybe one of the other USA peeps might been on the last legs with their device.
