It’s been next to worthless for me for a while. Docs, Tranlate and Drive? Still the best out there. Search? Use Startpage.

I do use docs and sheets as i don’t want to pay for office stuff even though it may be free online. I still use drive for sharing some stuff.

Personally, i use duckduckgo for search

Huh. While I don’t like some of what microsoft has been doing, they seem to have realized their domination of OS software market share and the viability of their other ventures depends on not being totally evil. It’s not that they haven’t tried, its that Windows 11 and 10 were going to basically have built-in spyware and yet it never got past the early stages because they were caught red-handed. Ever since the 90s anti-trust suit, they’ve been surprisingly half-hearted in pulling the kind of crap that other companies do, in that they barely try to hide it and inevitably get caught.

I do have a linux distro on standby, but for now I stick with Windows 10 because I still feel microsoft hasn’t gone too far and - if people continue keeping watch over the watch man - will hopefully never get the chance to.

So Google wants to damage the reputation of their biggest and still most important service, search, in order to try and bolster the ad revenue of a much smaller service, video. Great thinking! I’m sure this damage to their credibility of their main revenue business will not come to haunt them later.

Some of the same people that cry bloody murder about companies pulling tricks like these will be the first in line to shout “defederate!” from the top of the hills for any instance they don’t like. Pot? Meet kettle.

This is why defederation is a bad idea, IMO. I’m planning to get my own private Lemmy server set up just so I can access everything without being filtered by other people’s preferences, but I understand not everyone can do so.

They need to get the feature added where individual users can block instances for themselves. If the admins want to have a premade list of instances most users would find objectionable then that’s fine but yeah. Exept in the most extreme cases it should be individual users blocking what they don’t like rather than breaking up the network.
