Most people turned to congratulate Chelsea for the fascinating game, but indeed Manchester City has a few advantages over key decisions. The most apparent controversies were the soft penalty awarded again, and no foul for the handball. Sadly if the standard of refereeing is normal, Chelsea should deserve a win.
But you know what, I love mostly that Chelsea didn’t whine about it. Coach didn’t whine, players didn’t whine. That’s a focused team.
Shall we talk about the decision against city this season or shall we ignore them because it doesn’t suit your opinion or agenda. Soft pens maybe but pens yes by the letter of the law they are pens, shall we talk about the 5/6 sending off players should of seen against city?
I am getting a bit done with refereeing this season, it’s been worse than ever.
The Haaland Cucurella incident is just another one in the list of very soft penalties for city alone this season. It’s also another one where Dermot Shitforbrains is arguing it was a penalty for the same reasons he said whatever wasn’t a penalty last week. He’s an embarrassment, it’s remarkable Sky are yet to realise.
The handball incident(s) probably aren’t worth consideration.
But, as OP states. It would have been an injustice for Chelsea to come away with nothing yesterday.
Have a look at the first Chelsea goal. Cucurella likes holding and doing all sorts of rubbish. That was a penalty. Haaland would have gotten to that ball
He was behind the man who did get to that ball, zero chance of him getting to it.
To quote the brain dead twat that is Dermot Gallagher; it’s just good, physical defending.
I, like others presume you have never played football. Defending is not losing your man, whilst not losing sight of the ball. That’s what Cucurella did, Haaland tried to pull him over and Cucurella stood his ground.
Your lot (I presume you’re a new fan) have already had a lot of decisions your way this season. Liverpool get them because they’re scared of Klopp, try to give me an answer why they’re going your way?
The funny thing in this, Pep is one of my favourite people in football and always has been (not so much as a player, I was too young and the match fixing is a bit of a red flag).
So, I’m a United fan who is actually obsessed with Pep and his take on football. So, in a weird non-direct way I don’t entirely dislike the club I played for until I was 14, all of which despite being a United fan. But, there’s something at play this season. Rules seem to be being bent far too regularly and far too often in your favour.
I played Center and left back for most of my time playing, the first tug from both was an equal foul canceling foul type moment but then he was wrapping his arms on him when pulling him down. I think ultimately it’s a call that can go either way and the refs chose the penalty. I probably would have said it shouldn’t have been a penalty but the foul is there so it isn’t wrong to call the pen.
Liverpool who had a red rescinded, and a second red called incorrect by an independent panel?
Liverpool who had a goal stolen due to incompetence/straight up match fixing?
Liverpool who didn’t get an opponent sent off because Soboslai was “facing sideways rather than forward “when yanked to the floor by the last defender with the ball at his feet getting ready to shoot from 10 yards out?
You really picked the wrong club to say “some get decisions because xyz…
😂
Deluded take. Also the call was soft af.
Man city’s Arab money bought the league a long time ago
What happened to VAR checking for red cards because that was a clear red card for handball!
Short of sheikh mansour actually reffing a couple of matches in person, it’s tough to see how the refs could make it easier for city…
Gallagher was somehow not booked the entire game and Cucurella should have seen a second card for simulation.
The ref was right in front of Cucurella. If your agenda was true, he would have been sent off.
We’re city late on payments last year when they had that ridiculous goal given against them at old Trafford?
Or when foden had a gol ruled out at anfield for a foul by haaland in buildup ?
Now do rodris handball!
Didn’t you get the memo?
Giving credit to City doesn’t exist in football subs lol
Oh woe is you
City are an excellent team, possibly best in world. Pep is a generational talent as a manger.
Does it change the fact that they are facing over 100 counts of financial impropriety? Does it look extremely dodgy that referees manage matches on the side at the expense of city’s owners?
LOL.
Well here’s the thing , other fans cannot digest the fact that one team is dominating the league whilst their team can just sit and watch . United fans are unable to digest the fact that their own neighbours who were once dominated by them are now dominating them . The other teams are just whining bcs they can’t beat us .
Call us scamsters , frauds , oil money or whatever the fck ull want to , but we’re one team to beat in this league
Not a word about how Cucarella avoids a second yellow for clear simulation or how Dias gets the ball first for the penalty
The bias on Reddit forums is insane
I’m sure Ruben dias shared your sentiment, and that’s probably why he basically gave chelsea 2 goals
If you genuinely think the penalty at the end wasn’t a penalty then please stop watching football and remove yourself from this sub
I think he slipped due to the rain. I don’t think it was a moronic tackle as it looks like
Doesn’t mean that Dias is justified in thinking the ref decision in him was poor. He clattered the guy in the penalty area without getting the ball. As stone wall as it gets and the original reply was wrong to imply that the ref was unfair to city
Oh shut the fuck up.
The handball was a case of the ref/linesman not seeing it and because it was outside of the box VAR couldn’t do anything so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt even if I think it was pretty incompetent of them not it be watching properly. The first pen was a pile of bullshit though.
A pile of bullshit because it’s popular to root against City? Because if it was given to say Luton vs Chelsea I’m sure everyone would say it was the right decision
Bullshit because Haaland realises that he wasn’t going to get to the ball so flopped to the ground in a completely unnatural way to buy a penalty, and I’d say the same if another team got a penalty in the same situation, but as we’ve seen this season City are the team that get the soft penalties and not the other way around
I could see the ref missing it, but the linesman is on that side of the pitch. How could he miss it
Wtf, it was outside the box and Walker wasn’t even looking nor could anticipate the ball. The Chelsea penalty however was nonsense. Dias got the ball and he dived
Lol
Exactly, the whole fucking stadium and world saw it
Yeah. On replays. Don’t think the on field refs have that advantage.
I was there. Can confirm we all saw it
If you blink, you miss it. These things happen. People forget what it was like in the past. The most incredible infractions would happen all the time. It’s unfortunately normal.
People complain about this then also complain about VAR being a thing. Either you like “human error” or you don’t.
but the linesman is on that side of the pitch
Linesman missed a blatant corner for Arsenal the other day when it clear was you like rebounded off an opponent not 2ft away from him.
It’s like how much clearer does something need to be
Refs have line technology so if the ball had completely crossed the line, which it didnt, they would have called it.
It went out of play and they called a goal kick. It for sure went out of play. They just gave the wrong decision even though it happened right in front of the linesman.
Handball is such a weird one because it would’ve been a dangerous place to have a free kick, not sure why they don’t look at those ones when it’s so clear
Would slow the game down more than it has already slowed down. I’m fine with it.
I wonder what % of free kicks are scored from that position
Free kicks taken as shots have a 6% goal rate overall. So that’s 1 in 17.
Being charitable probably between 1-2 in 10 from there I’d guess.
Mudryk pushed Walker though. Biggest reason why it should not be given.
That’s not an excuse. I bet you if it was the opposite then Rodri would be crying to the ref and he would bend the rules and give a free kick
Wasn’t Walker also pushed?
How about VAR just be involved in all decisions to make sure the correct call is made.
How are all the refs on the field NOT watching the ball? Like none of them? Bull
They absolutely could justify it as stopping a goal scoring opportunity
Eh there’s way too much uncertainty around where the ball would have gone if Walker didn’t block it, if there was only Chelsea players around and Edersons pass was obviously going to fall to us it should be a red since no goalkeeper in goal = goalscoring chance if that fall to us, but it’s too unclear where the ball was going to go to say Walker prevented a goalscoring opportunity. Looked like Ederson was trying to pass to a defender on the touchline and that’s where the pass was headed
There’s no reason for Walker to handball it deliberately, nothing to be gained from intercepting his own keepers clearance.
It was a clearance. It was headed 60 meters down the field. It certainly wasn’t going to create an immediate goal scoring opportunity.
It wasn’t awarded a handball bc of the exemption for a ball kicked by a teammate. The end.
No they couldn’t in any way.
As much as it pains me to defend Man City I can’t agree with that, it was blocking a clearance from his own keeper, if anything a handball in that situation is more likely to create a chance for the opposition than to block it which it may well have done if Sterling hadn’t stopped to appeal for the hand ball and had instead put pressure on Gvardiol who had the ball in a much more dangerous position than he would have been if the ball hadn’t been obstructed.
The penalty wasn’t soft though, it was idiotic. Idiotic from cucurella, absolutely braindead foul after losing position.
Your bitterness is clouding your sense and judgement
But he is right. The ball was perfectly covered by Silva. And most probably Haaland would make a foul on his as he was not even close to that ball. Cucu just panicked and put his hands on him for no particular reason. But i do understand Cucu as well. It was a split second decision and it was the wrong one nevertheless.
Did you actually watch the same game as the rest of us or are you blind?
Why the hell did VAR not show Haaland fouling Cucurella first? It’s so baffling what var choose to show and not show something that literally preceeded the penalty appeal
Haaland did not foul Cucurella first though?
Cucurella grabbed Haalands arm and Haaland grabs his arm then let go a second later whilst Cucurella panicked because Haaland made a move and got infront of him so he pulled him down.
I think Chelsea played quite well but a lot of what they created was off city mistakes , Sterling goal off a terrible composure from gvardiol
And the Jackson goal was awful goalkeeping from ederson.
For me peps gotta take a lot of blame here , you need to shut up shop and control the game but city never did
Football is game of mistakes, city goals were eveb worse- bullshit pen, Silva mistake with akanji, penis goal by haaland and last goal was off silva
I share this same sentiment about those two goals. Silva’s was a corner kick, and Ruben had a mistimed tackle due to the rain, I suppose. It’s not like Chelsea carved City open. City also had the better chances. Sanchez had better saves
Yeh I think city created two great goals from open play
- akanji header
- haaland tap in
And the. Had the fortune deflection for Rodri’s goal
Is it that much of a reach to say that Chelsea just played really well and made City play the game they wanted them to? This rhetoric that City only lose because they don’t play their best is just lazy.
For City to make mistakes Chelsea MUST play REALLY well… I just love this way of “seeing” the game. Same as Spurs just got “unlucky” to go down to 9 and not because they just simply couldn’t keep up after the first 15 minutes. Mate, we played so well yesterday that we forced City to start making mistakes and was much closer to winning the game that City was. That is all.
Jackson’s goal was a result of the power behind connors shot. He had no time to react, he could only block it and hope his defenders go to the rebound first.
Cucurella had hold of his shirt for ages, it was a clear pen lol
Where as Haaland only had hold of Cucurella’s short for a short period?
Yeah. Cucurella has hold of him first, Haaland grabs him second, let’s go, Cucurella still has hold of his shirt the whole time it’s a pen
City had the same penalty for two weeks in a row while no one else in the league got that penalty even though it happens every game Jota did the same thing twice against Brentford and nothing happened
Tbh I just think there’s corruption going on but I can only point fingers
Always city and Newcastle on the right end of var.
So Cucurella should get away with manhandling players in the box. He also held Rodri for the first Chelsea goal, otherwise he was odds on to get to the ball before Silva
So Cucurella should get away with manhandled players in the box. He also held Rodri for the first Chelsea goal, otherwise he was odds on to get to the ball before Silva
if Rodri would have thrown himself at the ground VAR would 100% take a look at it… and I think I’d known the decision they would take
