3 back to back PLs, just won the treble and they’re still playing as if they had been missing on the league for half a decade, even without some key players. It’s ridiculous.

I remember Inter’s 2010-2011 side, who were still fresh from winning the treble and 5 scudetti in a row, and they were pretty spineless tbh. Did a decent season anyway, winning Copa Italia and making it to QF in the UCL, but didn’t seem much interested in defending any of their competitions including Serie A, which Milan won comfortably.

I know Mourinho left and also, there have been a couple of treble-winning sides since then who did just fine. But honestly, how common is it in sports to retain the same drive, even after achieving massive success? Not so common I’d say. It’s pretty unbelievable, regardless of what you may think of City.

Because it is a machine and not a football club. If one sub module slacks, it gets replaced. Unlimited funds.

Look at their squad and how Pep uses it. Nobody can show bit of complacency, if they do then they are out of the playing XI. Pep even benched KDB last season at some point. And Pep is a football nerd. Every year he is evolving and bringing something new in his style.

players knowing they can be replaced because peps system is bigger than them, unlike other teams who are basically dependent on the big players turning up. the thought of another team taking your thrown will also be very motivating.

Maybe they are motivated to surprass UTD in PL titles. And let’s be real, it can happen as long as Pep stays.

These are all professional athletes, that got where they got because of their mentality?

Look at CR7 and Messi who are on the twilight of their careers and still motivated. At the highest level, is not talent that really set up most players apart, but mentality.

They find the right players with the adequate hunger to improve and as sooooooon as they say they would rather go somewhere else they do NOT keep them.

“Our ships must all sail in the same direction”

And Pep keeps evolving his approach constantly, keeping things fresh, and rotating the squad every season up until about February/March when he finds out who he can trust that season.

    Pretty amazing consistency.

Money is chucked at new players every year. Add in the constant thrill of cheating ffp again, and I’d say there mostly laughing upstairs, while players like doku aim to win anything, while players like KDB are there for records now
