I finally convinced my bros to join me at an Arsenal football game, but I realized they won’t know anything about the players or the tactics, and I don’t want to keep getting interrupted by answering them. Is there any app out there that my new guys can use to either like scan the field or the players? If not, do you have recommendations on what features an app like that could have to make it more interesting for newcomers. I might try developing a solid app to help out others during the game using the camera.
If you want to watch the match uninterrupted , might as well watch it alone without the bros.
Or re watch old games and explain to them so you don’t feel interrupted.
Play FIFA with them
That’s how I learned!
How are you planning on getting multiple seats together in the first place? I can barely get a ticket for myself this season, let alone multiple together.
I know there are resellers, but that’s way more than I’d want to pay for someone who doesn’t have a clue what’s going on.
I was wondering the exact same thing!
Guy is from America - he’s not going to the emirates
Ball goes in net to score. That’s all they need to know to start. Learning about tactics comes later as they watch more matches
Been watching for almost a decade and I still feel like I have a pretty basic grasp at best on tactics
Are they the vibes type of people or the analytical type of people? They like following celebrity lifestyle? They appreciate sporting excellence?
Different ways for different people.
No, I get that, but I have some really inquisitive friends and I’d be happy if they could understand the game in real time? An app that like scans the field would be literally perfect for this one friend I got.
Scans the field for what?? It’s not rocket science.
The commentary will explain the players names and they’ll pick it up as they go along.
Make them read The Mixer and then give them a 300 question quiz.
I would just give them the basics right before the match and I’d suggest letting them take it all in live.
my guy, you invited them because you wanted to spend time with them no?
so spend the time with them explaining stuff, and answering their questions. you’re taking an opportunity to bond and educate your friends who likely have genuine curiosity about something you care about, and are wondering if you can find an app to do it for you.
When I got my now wife into football, we went to a preseason MLS game on a date. Around the start of the second half she turns to me and says “I think soccer is a two beer sport.”
It was a preseason game in a light Pacific Northwest drizzle against the Portland Timb*rs aka the other scum that we lost, and now she’s both an Arsenal and Sounders fan.
So, I guess my advice is bit of free alcohol and just answer questions as they come up, the sport speaks for itself.
Take a radio and listen to the commentary.
OP has a single post karma. Ignore.
Just be like
Our goal, opponents goal, ball. Try to keep ball out of our goal. Try to put ball in opponents goal. Repeat for 90 minutes.
Oh and you could tell them that cunt in the middle is the ref who is trying to keep the game fair but more often than not is failing miserably at it.
Record a game. Have them come over, give them a beer. Read, out loud, u/Billy_Carpenter ’s post about the game, as they attentively listen. Split screen with his diagrams, preferably. Repeat this 7 or 8 times, they’ll be on board.
Make them earn it, good plan!
Explain off sides and that it’s a contact sport.
