Hey folks, I’m a proud new owner of the Edge 840 Solar (first Garmin bike computer) and I’m looking for any must-have software that goes with it.

I’ve installed:

  • Basecamp (Windows).
  • Garmin Express (Windows).
  • Connect IQ and Connect (phone)

Are there any others I should know about?

Any suggestions for route creation on a computer or website? I know you can import GPX files from third-party sources, but any other tools would be appreciated!

90% of the time it’s just using the Connect Mobile app to sync rides. Connect IQ is only needed if you want to add datafields or apps from the IQ store.

The web version of Connect is pretty good a creating routes.

Express is only needed to update maps. I have never used Basecamp.

Thank you! The Connect website has been amazing and the app is great, too.

Basecamp has been… a learning curve. I find it easier to just create routes in any other program and then import the GPX file to Connect. LOL

Does Garmin update their maps often (in particular, the cycle map)? Do I have to worry about checking every day, week, month?
