I’m looking to purchase a Boxster this year, and like many others, I’m caught between the 981 and the 718. Usually I would go out and test drive to make an informed decision - but both models are hard to find in my area, particularly in manual.

It seems crazy to me to make the purchase without actually driving both cars, but that seems nearly impossible with what’s available. How are others educating themselves before making a purchase decision? Did you drive a vaguely similar model then trust internet research for the rest? I’ve read the comparisons and seen the reviews, but it’s so hard to know how others opinions will apply to my connection with the vehicle. I feel I’m stuck in the buying process with a problem I haven’t encountered before.

I appreciate any input from all of those who have somehow come to a confident enough decision to commit to one or the other!

You can definitely test drive. I test drove GT3’s and RS’s of different varieties when I was searching. Go in, tell them your situation and the differences you’ve read about that you’d like to experience firsthand, and most dealerships/sellers will understand if you’re serious.
