At the very least, it needs to be ppi’d for bore scoring and metal shavings in the oil filter from the IMS bearing.
Tempting
High miles. I have found a Cayman S with 55k miles for $29k. 100% track toy it will be.
Found Yoda’s Reddit account!
I bought one with 2 owners and 125k miles for $17k 5 years ago. You might as well try to find one with higher mileage and fewer owners for less money. You should be looking for a car that is driven regularly. FWIW I never had any problems with the car even to 155k miles. Also mine was a 6spd.
No
Not sure I’d pay 22k for a .1 S with 107k miles. Overpriced IMO
i’d get it if it wasn’t red
That sure looks like the one I had and sold to a person in Texas. The PCA sticker in the windows I recognize. If you get me the vin I can let you know.
Get a PPI done. Go to Flat-6 Innovations and read the issues w/ this model Cayman
4 owners
this always gives me pause
not at this price point
Do Porsches have the same ownership issues things like BMW M’s have? I know I would be cautions of a 4 owner M3/4/5 but I just don’t see Porsches being run through the same
Worse case you can always buy another one
TPWS in Austin will do a bore scope as part of the PPI. Do not buy this car without that. I spent $20k rebuilding a bore scored 3.4L.
Who did you go with? Did you bore it to a 3.8? DERP. Just saw the flare. So cool, How is it?
Its very nice. Pulls like a train after 4k rpm and howls while doing it. Block was sent to LN Engineering for boring and Nikasil coating. Put forged rods and pistons in and a Soul Performance exhaust. TPWS in Austin did all the assembly work.
If this is in Round Rock, see if you can get TPWS to do a PPI for you. They’ve been around for like 50 years and all they do is Porsches.
Does the carfax show regular services? The biggest watch out’s are deferred service on things like brakes, belts, suspension, etc. Bore Scoring isn’t a thing on base cars, nor is IMS bearing a real concern with the M97 engine.
I wish I’d kept my 08 Base model, they are fantastic sports cars. You should be able to get this for less than asking price too. Start at 18k. Not like people are lining up with $20k cash for 17 yr old cars and financing is expensive now too.It says good deal
Other than the IMS issue, I’d consider the gearbox. I’d take the manual but not the tiptronic. Once you’ve tried PDK, the tiptronic really doesn’t hold up very well.
