Like the title says, coming from android (more specifically pixel)
I did enjoy the inital promise of customization offered on android devices, but for whatever reason Google has done away with huge portions of that freedom and weirdly “pure android” has started to feel more like IOS.
Much to my pleasant surprise apple has fixed a huge number of my complaints with iOS since my last iPhone 7 years ago. To be frank I used to shit on iPhone but am eating a lot of crow here admitting that they definitely fixed most of their shortcomings and are clearly pulling away in the smartphone race (like you needed me to tell you that)
That being said… HOW HOW HOW is the iPhone keyboard so bad? I know this sounds like a small problem but when I last used an iPhone years ago, the period placement (near the space bar) caused me to constantly fat finger random periods into most of my searches and messages. It’s hideous design and I can’t understand for the life of me how apple hasn’t solved this wart of a problem. Especially because I KNOW that most people who work at apple are aware of the issue because it affects basically anyone with an iPhone! LOL
Not only is it an old, know issue, but it’s an obvious one that actually causes inconvenience. Not just the period, the entire board is cramped and it’s genuinely difficult to type on compared to Gboard, which I am using now to type this. It took me a few days to realize I could use gboard on IOS and HOLY SHIT is the difference night and day. I actually feel bad for all the people (most) using the stock iOS keyboard. It was like being stuck in hell lol
Just bewildered by how apple has solved so much yet somehow ignored this simple fix for going on a decade
Same here and I’ve been using since the 3gs. I always hit the period key instead of space. Wish I could move the period key to the left or space to far right
Oh my god thank you for posting this, I had NO CLUE iPhone brought keyboard haptics back!!! Feels so much better now, +1 to OP
I just want a GBoard like from Android on iPhone. The GBoard offered is not the same. I miss it on my pixel. Alas, here we are.
simple things like the swipe gestures, and holding letters for alternate keys (I’m looking at you punctuation!) seem like such simple things apple must prohibit
The keyboard is awful, and how can we not increase the size of the keys? Anyway, I use swiftkeys now which is a lot better and it actually has a number row, but I still can’t change the size of the keys.
You’re ok with the notifications?
I think I’m in the minority, but I prefer the notifications on iOS.
The space bar is friggin massive. How are you hitting the period so much? Could this just be a muscle memory thing?
Keyboard and gestures are really terrible.
I really think this keyboard got bad with the latest iOS. They hyped it up so much about its predictive text. It’s way off and just difficult to use compared to GBoard.
man, even google keyboard on ios sucks, but not quite as bad as the stock keyboard. god damn i miss android so much. next year can’t come soon enough, when apple joines the rest of the world with RCS and can send high quality media over SMS
Wait where? I don’t even have a full stop on my keyboard when I type normally.
Swiftkey is the way to go but it’s still inferior to the Android version where long presses gives symbol or number options…why that isn’t on the iPhone I don’t know
I think apple purposely limits how well other keyboards work on iOS in the name of security. It’s a damn shame too because typing could be so much better on iOS.
How do I use Gboard on iOS? Can you share a link to an installation guide?
Recently moved from Android to iOS and hate the keyboard!
I completely agree, I also miss having a wider variety of symbols on my keyboard and having the number row always display. Text selection is also super weird and inconsistent on iOS. I still choose not to use gboard though cause it looks out of place
SwiftKey app
Yes, iOS keyboard is terrible. Swiping helps but only so much (and seems worse at selecting the right word). I keep hoping for improvement.
