Context: This is from Electro Harmonix andMike Matthews is the founder of the company and founded it in the 60s. They’re one of the biggest names in the business and have made tons of iconic guitar effects. I can 100% guarantee you’ve heard sounds from their effects in the music you listen to.
To say I’m disappointed is an understatement since EHX invented my favorite effect. This song is primarily written about an event where he got beat up by Union picketers (that may have had Mob connections) in '81 but everything about this video is fucking gross. The way it’s edited to make the Union look like antagonists, the use of the word “thugs” (dog whistle much?) in the description, the fucking title…
There’s so many better ways to criticize corrupt unions or write music about an event that affected you personally. Putting this out on EHX’s channel ensures I’m never buying their pedals again.
From what he said the tune is 40+ years old. He’s said before the Mob hired thugs to interfere with his business… I feel like it needs some official verification as we only have his side.
Yeah. I tried to look for 3rd party/unbiased info on this event but couldn’t find anything else other than the EHX history page or very limited info.
Apparently there is some New York news footage of it where the journalist there investigated, but the footage is in archives so I dont know what it is. This is according to someone in the youtube comments though.
