will have to change my car tires and came accross the goodyear assy2 run on flat and dunlop MAXX 050 run on flat. is it worth the extra penny?
Run flats suck. They create more noise, reduce ride smoothness and perform worse in corners.
I’ve never used run flats on my mazda, but only because I’ve had them before on a previous vehicle and I wasn’t a fan. They’re much firmer in the sidewalls and I found it makes for a way rougher ride. Also, if you are in colder climates, when the car sits overnight in freezing temperatures the tires freeze in the shape they’re in while parked. The flat areas contacting the ground take awhile to take normal shape once you start driving so for the first few minutes it feels like you’re driving on a wash-board “thump thump thump thump” I thought something was seriously wrong with the car the first time I experienced it.
In my experience, they are not worth it. Ride quality isn’t great, and they can be loud. Their manufacturers advise against repairing them if you do pick up a puncture, so most shops will refuse to patch/plug them, which means you’ll be replacing it. Most shops don’t keep them in stock either, so you’ll be more than likely waiting for your replacement if you want to put another run flat back on. Save your money.
