I was thinking about this for awhile, and was wondering if anyone else felt that people are hesitant to award Premier League players with the credit they deserve?

Eg. Am I crazy or was Haaland not winning the Ballon D’or really disrespectful towards the Premier League?

He set the goals record, and won the treble.

You Look over the list of winners and in the premier league era only Michael Owen and Ronaldo have ever won it while playing for a premier league team.

How did Henry not win it in 2003?

I feel like now that he is dominating a much poorer league Harry Kane is finally getting the respect he deserves.

Jude Bellingham is getting bonus credit for doing it for Real Madrid.

The premier league is overrated, it’s just that the ballon d’or doesn’t rank it as highly as everyone else does

To your point about Messi winning it over Haaland. I can see the case for Haaland and if he won it then fair play. However…he was missing in the two finals for the treble. Messi won the World Cup, won the most motms for the cup, most goals, most assists. Most momts in europes top 5 that Callander year. The World Cup is the greatest tournament and he was the greatest player in the tournament. That’s why it’s fair to give it to Messi.

That being said, lewa was most definitely robbed 2 years ago 😢

To be honest, I think it’s because Messi and Ronaldo have just drastically overshadowed the global footballing stage for so long. It’s also important to note that the quality of a league does not dictate quality of players. For example the prem is inarguably the most competitive league, but the best players in the world don’t dream of playing for City, instead they want to play for Madrid.

It isn’t purposely biased against the prem but the fact that there’s so many tough games in the prem means an epl striker would struggle to put up ballon d’or numbers. Which makes haaland even more deserving. He’s just unlucky Messi won the World Cup tbh. Messi might not deserve but at the end of the day it’s 75% popularity contest and 25% performance

Simply because the best players in the world play outside the PL. The only proper argument is Henry 2003. Haaland didn’t score in a single final, failed to qualify for World Cup.

The ballon dor isn’t a most goals award

Henry was robbed in 03, besides that we’ve been living in Messi-Ronaldo’s world for 20 years. This is an obvious consequence of their greatness.

How many all-time NBA players have no titles because of Jordan?

The Ballooner is all about vibes, and yeah, the vibes in England don’t sit right with a lot of the judges. You can’t win it by sheer force of stats either way though.

Yeah probably but I’m not bothered if a player I rate skill wise and off the pitch doesn’t get the most popular player of the year award.

The balondor would be a great award if the proper criteria for worldwide player of the year was less subjective and if you took away this corporate conference style system they have for it. I remember watching the CL draw this year and if you’re drawing out something that can be done in 15mins over 1h30mins you’re doing something wrong, I imagine balondor is similar not watched it in ages.
