I mean, couldn’t they still “boycott” by casting a “present” vote? It’s essentally the same thing but you get to keep your job.

I suspect they are stopping a vote from even happening because the minimum percentage of legislators required to be there to vote (a quorum) is not being met. basically, they are throwing a tantrum, taking the ball and going home.

Quorum is usually 50% in most legislatures, I don’t see how not attending is any way useful… Ahh I just searched it, two-thirds quorum. So idiotic. Lazy person writing the state constitution just copied Indiana’s racist constitution which just so happened to have the two-third rule so that’s why they still have these stupid supermajority quorums. It’s like a filibuster but instead of endless talking, they don’t even need to attend at all. Just wow.

The measure addresses a quirk in Oregon’s constitution, left over from when the state’s founders copied about half the text from Indiana’s constitution in 1857. Indiana’s constitution contained an explicit ban on Black people living in the state, which appealed to Oregon’s founders, and it also required a two-thirds quorum in the House and Senate.

Lmao they got the highschooler attitude to homework way before our times!
