Feel like ever since Ronaldo moved to Saudi and with the hype around Messi, we have forgotten about Ronaldo (though I’m not surprised). He has been doing real good with Al Nassr this season and is in great form, but because he no longer plays in Europe, will he even have a good Euro Tournament next year? The competition in Saudi Arabia is no where near what is in Europe, but then again its Ronaldo.

I’d say he probably scores three goals and Portugal go out in the quarter finals, semi at best but it will be down to the rest of the team if they do that.

Probably not, even for someone as disciplined as him… 39 is a big number for an athlete.

Although he’s definitely playing better compared to his 2nd United season ( expected, considering he then missed the preseason due to the death of his child and sickness of the other ), but I still don’t expect him to be back in the form we’ve seen in previous years. Who knows tho…

I hope Portugal has a successful euro for sure since I’m portuguese, as for Ronaldo it’s hard to say, but but looking at recent history I’d say it will the impact his presence has on the team will largely depend on how Martinez handles it.

I think he could fit the role of impact sub perfectly, he definitely still knows how to finish and how to move and which spaces to look for upfront, but having him as a starter will weight down on our attack, and issue is as we’ve seen on the world cup I don’t think his ego allows him to accept filling this role.

But if Martinez manages to handle him better than F.Santos and can be in sync with him and have him as a locker room leader and impact sub, I think he can definitely give a great contribution to our team.

Depends on what you define as “successful”. If you expect him to dribble past everyone, be quick and press like crazy, that surely won’t happen.

I think a realistic expectation would be to count on him from penalties and set pieces. He is very far from his prime, but he is still excellent on those two things. People laugh at “Penaldo” stuff all the time, but it’s a huge luxury to have a cold-blooded player with 20+ years of top footballing career in your squad.

As for people saying he should be benched, that makes zero sense. He is an incredible form right now, yes against weaker opponents for both club and country, but it’s still a very good form. I’d rather have a very experienced player, with a very good form, even if it’s against “camels”, rather than Goncalo Ramos with 2 goals in 15 games, being benched at this own team.

Whenever Ronaldo’s not on screen, all the other should characters should be asking “where’s Ronaldo?”.

I’m Portuguese and he’s still effective against the bottom feeders of the world. His last two World Cup appearances were quite underwhelming and we’re still trying this shit in 2023.

Over here he’s treated like a deity, and his goal tally is more important than the National team’s effectiveness.

Portugal now has one of the best squads in their history, Prime Ronaldo would have made that team unstoppable, but with all the names available we could say YES they can go for it, especially with Martinez being in charge (We all know Fernando Santos wasn’t the one)

Let me remind you of some of the names in their squad

Bruno Fernandes (Man U) Danilo Pereira (PSG) Joao Felix (Barcelona) Joao Cancelo (Barcelona) Bernando Silva (Man City) Gonçalo Ramos (PSG)

    And many more

      Are you crazy?

I would agree with Bruno, Cancelo , and Bernardo Silva.

Felix is inconsistent as fuck and cant fit a shot on target to save his life. Danilo is often injured at the end of the season, Ronaldo, still decent but he is way past his prime, and Ramos, also decent - perhaps w a bright future, but right now, it is not a player that would consistently figure as.a first team regular in any top European team. Right now he is a luxury bench option.

Portugal os a decent side, but far down in the list of favourites.

Best portuguese team ran perhaps between 2000 to 2010, where we were actually decent in every aingle position and had options outside a strong starting 11.

Currently, i would say we have a strong starting 5 or 6 and a 2nd line of players that despite good , would struggle tp be first team regulars in any side that has a shot at winning the champions league

He will be 39 years old- to give some context 2 years older than James Milner.

Portugal looks poised to have a good Euro so think Ronaldo will have a good one as well but don’t we should expect too much.

No. They won’t shut up about the greasy git on every single programme until Portugal are kicked out, then show retrospectives about his previous tournaments and honestly I could give a flying fuck

On paper they have as good a team as any. Quality all the way thru the team. They just need martinez to make them a winning team. It’s possible for sure. One possible downside for Martinez was that she wasn’t able to keep the egos in check for Belgium in the last WC, there’s potential for that here too. Let’s see
