I’m trying to benefit from the public healthcare in my country. Today I went to an orthopedian with a traumatized hand knuckle (I’m practising martial arts and it’s been hit a bit too hard a bit too many times).
They told me to get an xray and to come back with it. So far so good, nothing unexpected. What I found weird (but not unexpected as it’s advertised on their website) is that they recommended me oxygen-ozone smth smth therapy. This “therapy” for me would consist in injecting some kind of oxygen/ozone rich substance in the hand to “help with healing”, because “where there’s trauama there’s lack of oxygen”.
A bit of research online makes me believe this is just a scam and has no proved medical benefits.
Can anyone with proper medical training provide some thoughts in this regard?
I have been in the healthcare field for 12 years and never heard of it until now. I looked it up and came across this article https://health.clevelandclinic.org/ozone-therapy/
Looks like it is unproven, unregulated, and risky. I personally would not recommend it. Seek a second opinion.
