Currently have owned a 987.1 for around 5 years. I’m looking for something with a little more power while also being unique. I’m approaching 40 and am giving more consideration towards comfort for longer trips. This will not be my daily.
GT4 over and over again
If you have kids, would go for the T in manual, if any plans for autox to racing would go for gt4 in dcg
If you’re looking for comfort neither are good options. The GT4’s suspension is going to be tuned for the track and the 991.2 T has less sound deadening and thinner glass so it will be louder. If you want comfort go for a normal run of the mill Porsche then get a tune.
Depends a lot on your enthusiasm as to whether either are acceptably comfortable. Non car people often think and sports car is not comfortable to use regularly. I personally drove a fully track prepped 968 CS with buckets, cage, harnesses and no AC to work every day for two years and thought it fine. Horses for courses.
For daily driving and comfort on longer trips, the 911 will be better than the GT4.
Yes, just saw the Gt4 and a T at a local dealer. T was in ruby star too with the Gt4 in shark blue. I do like the T. Gt4 is not a touring car.
The 981 GT4 will always be special and isn’t as stiff as folks make them out to be. You can opt for the sofas instead of the carbon buckets if you want some extra comfort.
I’m in a 981 GT4. The ride is fine for short and long drives. Mine has 18 way sofas and I can say they are super comfortable and amazing for the longer drives. I chose the sofas after owning a Lotus Elise with non-adjustable buckets, and my back screamed at me after 30 min of driving.
Cabin is loud, but it is a pleasure to hear the 3.8L singing away right behind you. Easy to add a CarPlay/Android Auto device to your PCM.
If you are DIY with maintenance, the 981 is super easy to do engine and transaxle oil changes on since no rear underpanels to remove (unlike the 718) to get to the drain plugs.
It depends on how the T is configured. If you really want comfort for longer trips, some of the options the T might have come with could detriments (carbon seat, for example).
I have a T with carbon seats and routinely do 8 hour highway drives. The increased NVH on the T isn’t a big deal.
T will probably hold value a little better, especially if it’s a manual car.
I don’t know what type of driving you plan to do but GT4 for the track or 991.2 T for the street. The gearing in the GT4 makes it a lot less fun as a canyon carver. 80 in second is not super fun if you are rowing your own
Common statement about the long 2nd. I have a 718 GT4 and wouldn’t change anything about the ratios for canyon carving.
GT4 is surprisingly compliant. Even more so with a DSC controller and if you downsize to 19’’ rim and go with a nice road tire (4S or a nice Conti). If you get the buckets, you can swap them for 4-way sofas easily and cheaply. The engine sounds great and is a blast. T is a fantastic car too but it’s turbo charged and more expensive.
981 GT4 everyday.
991T, a GT4 is not a comfort car….
911
Thanks for all the input! I’m leaning towards the T
991
911, all day, every day, espe6the T.
Have driven both extensively on road and track, and the 911 is deeply superior.
