Who are the players that are operating at the highest level but seem to offer absolutely nothing in the game?

The one that always comes to mind with me is Will Hughes. He has been an attacking midfielder with both Watford and now Crystal Palace but can anyone pick out a game where he has genuinely stood out? His goals and assists record always appear to be low, can’t remember him doing much in terms of tackling and providing protection for players behind him. He only seems to be one of those snides who generally gets involved with arguements. And this from a player who was touted as being a future English star and linked with a huge transfer to Liverpool and other bigger clubs when he was at Derby.

Who stands out, or rather doesn’t stand out, to you?

If a player is operating at the highest level and you perceive them as offering nothing then it’s categorically an issue on your end.

Not really up for any Hughes slander. Does he fair share of dirty work, gets stuck in.

Anyway, Kai Havertz. Like playing where’s Wally when he’s on.

He has been playing regularly in the Premier League for how many years now? Its not his first season in the top flight and he is not playing for a side who have only recently got promoted. He might not be operating in the Champions League, or on the international stage, but he is not playing in the National League or lower down in the EFL.

    Rashford for me.

People say he is out of form but his performances haven’t changed, he just isn’t scoring in moments.

He operates at the highest level but what he actually offers if very little when the goals dry up.

I wouldn’t call Rashford invisible though. Most Utd highlights are filled with him having about 50 shots a game whilst ignoring obvious openings for his teammates.

Nelson Semedo, tidy player, has the odd great game, but never scores, never assists and is at fault for a few goals due to his lack of concentration.

Joao Moutinho was an invisible player throughout his carreer. And an amazing one.

Bit harsh on Hughes. He’s a tidy player. Anyone playing in the Prem is there on merit. No space for passengers.

Yeah it always makes me laugh when people are out here calling PL players “bang average”, they’re literally the 1% of the 1%, regardless of which PL team they’re playing for.

Mason Mount. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a match and said “wow Mount played really well today”. That goes for his England career too.

He was class in a fair few games for Chelsea. Notably in our cl winning run. Has dropped off massively the last year though, and now he’s at utd I don’t really care if he gets better or not.

If Will Hughes played in the MLS or some lower European league, I’d imagine he’d play like Kevin De Bruyne.

Will Hughes is a tidy backup central midfielder. What exactly are you expecting of him?
