For months now I’ve been torn between buying a Model Y and buying one of Hyundai’s Ioniq models. Today I pulled the trigger and bought my first EV, an Ioniq 6 SEL. Overall I just felt like I was getting more car for the same price. I’m absolutely blown away at how much Hyundai has turned their brand around compared to 5 years ago. The 5 year 60k mile bumper to bumper and the 10/100k battery with two years free charging and 3 years free maintenance is what ultimately sold me. But dang if those Tesla seats aren’t the most comfortable things in the world.

What’re the pros n cons of it compared to say a basic model 3 or y? Other than the seats of course haha

      Good question.

So as a dad storage space is big for me. The Y has a ton of storage. Tesla obviously is also known for being big in the autopilot market and the cars have a lot of fun features like the dog mode thing and changing the horn, etc.

Then on the other side Tesla only had 6 months of free supercharging, the warranty wasn’t as good, and lately a lot of people I know who own Teslas are complaining about quality control issues. Tesla also seems to be moving toward a subscription based process for a lot of the extra features on their cars and I’m tired of having everything be subscription based these days.

Those are some of the things, hope that helps

Out of all the things to praise Tesla for, seat comfort is probably last on the list. In all of my test drives, the ride quality is so rough for something so expensive.

It’s funny, a lot of people are saying that, but I am tall and thin so I kinda sunk into the S and X I sat in at the dealer and it was nice. To this day though the most comfortable seats I’ve ever sat in was a 2017 Dodge Journey.

I guess it depends on the country but in Europe the Model Y is much cheaper than the Ioniq and comes with way more features as standard.

I have two reasons why I’d buy a Tesla over any other EV. Sentry mode (and the fact that the cameras record everything around you as you drive so accidents are easy to prove who’s at fault) and the fact that Kia and Hyundia went with blinking brake lights and not separate amber indicators. Everywhere else in the world they’re amber but US models get the blinking brake light. Oh, and I don’t like key fobs. I don’t see the point. Get in, touch the brake pedal to start the car and go.

I wish Hyundai sold those at competitive prices here in Europe. But for 70 grand and I can a Volvo.

I can’t speak to financing but at least leasing that does not seem to be the case. Lots of folks have been getting leases in the 300s with zero down at Denver area Hyundai dealers. Can see examples at leasehackr. Once again you may be correct if using cash or financing.

two years free charging… with EA? you were sold load of crap

three years free maintenance? this is like selling you three years worth of air.

EVs shouldnt need any maintenance in the first three years.

I will see you in highland in 2-3 years.

I was told that tire rotations are even more important for EVs because they tend to be heavier and driven harder (especially on corners). Was I bamboozled?

Tire rotations can range from important to utterly pointless to impossible (when the car doesn’t have the same sizes front and back). What makes them not that useful is that rotations don’t really change the amount of wear the car puts on the the tires, just the distribution of it.

It’s safer to have the more worn tires on the front, by quite a bit. I used to have a car that burned through front tires pretty hard. That didn’t lead me to rotate more often, though. Rather it made me replace the front tires twice as often as the rears. Rotating would have evened the replacement out, but then I would have ended up spending more time with the tread depth in the rear at a lower average depth. In aggregate, it would have been less safe to rotate the tires instead of just replacing the fronts more often.

I’m making weekly 400 mile round trips in the EV I got with free EA charging. So far I have had to wait to charge once in 7 or 8 attempts. Not too bad. EA horror stories appear to be overblown, at least in my region.

Free EA charging has been a boon for my budget.

I know it’s different across the country, but I have not found the non-Tesla network to be problematic. Electrify America has level 3 chargers in Walmart parking lots. And Walmart’s are all over the country. For road trips that works great, otherwise I charge at home.

Most of my non-home charging takes place in Massachusetts or NY, with a little in Maine, and I haven’t had any of these problems people complain about. Then I have to charge in NH or VT and I am reluctantly forced to admit that things would be easier in a Tesla.

Walmarts and malls are a blessing when driving a non-Tesla.

It’s honestly sad if you look at his/her comment history — contributing to various Tesla and Elon specific subreddits. I am a fan of Elon’s contributions to society but I’m not in a subreddit named after him.

Furthermore, The only difference between what Elon does is say the part out loud that A LOT of people at his level of success are thinking. Mind you I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, because life just isn’t that binary. We all know he says shit that is impulsive and off the cuff. If you know anyone with Asperger’s you’ll understand it’s fairly common to blurt shit out and lack any sense of a filter. You take the good with the bad because none of us are perfect.

I’ll never understand why some people prefer to be motivated by hate than to just look for good in the world, wherever and however you see it, and live your life accordingly. You’ll (they will) feel happier and not feel compelled to write people off so quickly.

Asperger’s doesn’t explain boosting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, or calling yourself a ‘free speech absolutionist’ then complaining that people don’t want to do business with your Nazi bar.

Eh I want a Model Y badly, but Elon is piece of shit that really tarnishes the brand. Any good he’s done for EVs and space travel is undercut but his active contribution to the worst parts of societal discourse. Worse, he’s a billionaire that uses his money for the memes. He’s a man child that got money from mommy and used it to invest in pre-existing companies to build his personal profile. He knows a good idea and he’s a smart marketer, and I guess he knows how to surround himself with smart people. Why not ask Elon why he’s actively motivated by hate?
