it’s got the 2.0T TSI and is AWD. I took it in to a local garage because when you press the accelerator the EPC light flashes on and the screen says ‘Engine Fault, Workshop Now’, then it clears and no check engine light comes on. The problem is somewhat intermittent so I can understand how it would be difficult to diagnose, but after you drive for 30 min it happens every time you press the gas.

The first time I took it in they opened the timing cover and replaced the cam bridge for $3500. it didn’t fix the issue, and it did the error as I was leaving the garage.
the Second time I took it in they did some electrical work and didn’t charge me anything. it didn’t fix the issue, and it did the error as I was leaving the garage.
the third time I took it in they replaced the ECM (it took 2 months for them to finish) for $2600. it didn’t fix the issue, and it did the error as I was leaving the garage.

I am super frustrated now. any advice on what to do? I feel like I have payed more than enough money and they should just fix it now or give me my money back :(

    You’re into litigation territory if the shop that you took it to has been shotgunning parts at the problem hoping that it gets fixed. You may end up having to take it to the dealership for proper diagnosis and suing the independent shop for the difference.

    EPC light is often the connector for the throttle position sensor. There is a service note for it, the repair kit includes the connector and 5-6 repair wires. The stock wires are too short, the wires shorten a bit with age and eventually the connection isn’t good enough. Sounds stupid but it exists… A vw shop would know about this.

    Could be the throttle position sensor itself also.

    Not sure why you’d do an ECM before those two?
