I’m curious - why do you pick Samsung compared to other smartphone brands? (Google Pixel, iPhone, OnePlus, etc.)

(I’m also going to be asking in other phone subs, hope this survey goes well)

I’m old enough to where Samsung was really the only decent alternative to Apple and Apple is too controlling for my taste. That being said I’ve tried HTC and LG and they never seemed there technology wise. LG towards the end tried to be too gimmicky which basically means their phone isn’t very good.

The quality of big brands android phone is astonishing. I personally use iPhone for my private phone, and Galaxy A71 for a work phone. The quality of Samsung Galaxies are top notch and they are very reliable for day to day use.

In the past, I have tried chinese android phones (Xiaomi). And I feel the quality control of chinese branded phones are somewhat hit and miss. I had an issue with my previous Redmi Note 8 when the signal is pulling to each other when dual sim is in, resulting in excessive heat and thermal throttling to the phone, and it is very slow to use. The cameras and the ability to scan QR code is very inaccurate, and it took my patience to use it.

It’s the “back” and “menu” buttons for me. No idea what Apple does with their screen now, but back when I had Galaxy for personal, and Apple for Work, I could not get around NOT having those 2 added buttons for functionality on an iPhone.

Even as I type this, I can drop the keyboard with the “back” button and pull up running apps with the “Menu” button. It’s great for web browsing and going "backc a page.

I’m sure Apple has something for this, like long pressing Home for 5 seconds or 10 seconds lol… but I’m too engrained with the 3-button setup to ever go back. It’s like asking a SNES user to go back to using the NES controller.

Design, firmware and One UI, good customization, long term support for Android updates(4 years), security, the best iPhone alternative for me

Rocking nexus and pixel phones before going to OnePlus from android 2.3 onwards I was getting annoyed at how android went from being super customisable to being more and more stripped down. Having played with TouchWiz before and hating it I was blown away by OneUI when I got a tab s5e, and combined with GoodLock, I had the android I loved back.

Why I’m hesitant on a pixel:

    -Subpar SOC for it’s price

-Limited pixel UI and UI decisions that make me question my life.

I like one plus, but their cameras are sub par. Only 1080p30fps for the selfie camera in 2023? Bad.

I love them because Samsung has the ecosystem, the hardware, the software and the design that’s just better than any other android imo. They are truly the apple of Android.

Used China phones for most of my life. They are usually filled with shit ui and bugs.

When Samsung came out with OneUI, I finally took the chance because the UI is such a big deal.

I am familiar with the camera and the Bluetooth codec, but more than anything, I love the display these phones have and how vibrant the colors look.

Laziness. I’ve used Galaxy since the OG Galaxy S and I don’t want to move all my shit to another platform.

Tbh I might do so anyway fairly soon. I can’t speak for the rest of the market - tbh I’m probably in a small minority - but I’m not really seeing any good reasons to stay with Samsung or get another Android flagship at this point. No more headphone jack so I have to use inferior overpriced bluetooth trash, no more easily replaceable battery, no more unlockable bootloader for custom ROMs, no more open source advantage (One UI is as closed source as IOS and that’s pretty much the case with all of the big android players - they’ve been using closed source proprietary modifications of android for years now), side loading is becoming more and more limited, no more microSD slot which means no more sane options to increase storage, and now apparently they’re about to take away 10x optical zoom. 10 years ago I was ride-or-die Android but in that time they’ve taken away pretty much every single reason to use one of their devices over an iPhone.

Unless something changes dramatically, my next phone is almost certainly going to be an iPhone pro max, next tablet almost certainly an iPad Pro (possible exception here if flagship Galaxy Tabs keep the micro sd slot).

Iphone too expensive and I didn’t really like it when I had a OnePlus phone because it has basically no customisation
