I’ve got a 2017 limited with 64k miles that just had a transmission totally fail. Has anyone else seen this happen? I’ve averaged less than 10k miles per year and don’t tow anything. Dealership says I am 4k miles outside of powertrain warranty so nothing they can can do.

    Common problem for the ‘17 year models. My ‘17 Silverado had the transmission go at roughly 70k

    Sometimes a dealership will do “goodwill” paying half or more, it’s worth inquiring or calling GM and seeing, sometimes they will help. Do you regularly service at the dealer?

    Somepeople drive like idiots then complain when tranny fails do you drive it normal or drive it like you stole it or constantly oof roading

    In october of 2023 I spent 4,500 dollars to install a Jasper remainufactured transmission in my 2018 gmc yukon SLT with 116,000 miles on it. We bought the car used with 80k miles. It had supposedly just been properly serviced (lies) The trans pan was full of metal, and the fluid was almost black.

    Very common unfortunately. I believe the main cause of failure in these are the torque converter and the thermostat valve.

    Change fluid every 40k and that thermostat valve. The valve can stick and cause the transmission to cook itself.

    I have taken to offering a thermostat delete when doing a trans service on 6L80e. This prevents the trans from overheating, hopefully keeping the torque converter failure at bay.

    My in laws transmission was going bad at under 40k miles but the truck is from 2017. He replaced the torque converter and changed out the fluid in hopes it doesn’t go bad.

    Call GM since you are close enough to warranty and see if you can escalate to get an exception. They might honor the warranty still, worth a try

    Everything is designed to fail these days, we have 2500 GMC work trucks that have had to have several replaced, 2017 - 2020s. Why else do they force you to get a crap-ass automatic? Simple… WAY more $$$ to fix/replace than a basic clutch.

    Not a new problem. My father had a 2007 Acadia go out at 58k miles. So common. They might cover it for you if there’s a service bulletin for it

    It’s a 2017 you’d be out of powertrain warranty regardless of mileage due to time. Did you get your transmission fluid changed at 45k?
