My husband is wanting a BMW XM( he said he would prefer the Red Line and I tried explaining to him that that is limited edition but he is willing to travel to get one). I wanted to see what people’s opinions are for those who own one. Do you like it? What do you like about it? What do you hate about it?
He has test driven it and loves the ride but also wanted a second opinion. (Though to be honest I think he is just gonna buy it by the end of month because he keeps talking about how great it will be for our road trip to Texas)
It’s no better or faster than an X5M, much uglier, less practical, and in Canada at least it’s effectively double the price. Base X5M is $136k, XM Red Line in $260k. Terrible value for an ugly car with a sort of funky interior.
If he wants a cool SUV and must spend at least a quarter-mil on it for some reason I would go straight for a G63 AMG. It’s truly unlike any other car you can buy, it’s charming, good looking, and one of the few mass produced vehicles assembled by hand. Or a Range Rover.
Tell him to get an X7 instead. It’s a better car for way less money, more room for road trips, and you can use the extra $ to buy a 3 series for the kids or take a fancy vacation or two.
Not sure I could ever justify the Redlines cost over just the XM

Excellent drivetrain. Terrible car. Inexcusable special edition. Biggest miss in BMW history.
It’s the worst bmw in a long time. Get a new husband or a high end X5.
The general consensus around it is that it’s an awful value for the insane amount of money it costs. Plus that trim in particular just looks horrible not that the XM looks good in any trim.
Don’t own one, but my opinion is that it’s ugly as shit. I think that opinion is shared here but hey it’s your money.
The XM is dumb. It just is.
But for road trips, you’re not finding many other vehicles with that level of luxury, comfort, and space between you and the other body in the vehicle.
If he likes it, he likes it but I would say the popular opinion is negative both on design and value. But idk 🤷♀️ since I personally have not driven
