That trade off is that Big Tech companies need to basically certify that your device is capable and valid in order to access a website. “They” can decide at any moment to deny you access to sites that you request, which is a massive detriment to the free and open web. It’s one step below a censored internet and it’s already started rolling out in Safari.
So let me guess, the point is to get rid of AdBlockers isn‘t it? I liked my iPhone, but if they fuck with AdGuard I‘ll switch. Google seems to be spearheading this though, and if they get AWS/Azure etc on board, will there be any way to escape it at all? This worries me a bit.
