For most daily life I only need privacy and not anonymity (because anonymity is harder to screw up). I do plan on getting into open source intelligence and would prefer anonymity over privacy for this purposes. I also may be in a totalitarian country soon.

I know that VPN over Tor is unacceptable but Tor over VPN works fine. I also know if I router all traffic through Tor, I can’t route traffic through VPN after that. So my question is this: if I anonymously paid for VPN (which is the only thing I have already done that), could I have a set up on my other operating system (I dual boot Ubuntu and one other OS which I use for anonymity purposes), in which I automatically start VPN upon boot, then route non-VPN traffic through Tor and the Tor connection through VPN?

I see answers online like this:

https://superuser.com/questions/1645100/how-to-route-all-traffic-through-tor-and-vpn

So my question is if this is acceptable (I know it sounds like a stupid question):

VPN --> Tor proxy --> encrypted traffic?

I haven’t routed anything through Tor yet. Right now I’m just using VPN on Ubuntu and no Tor (at least not yet). I may get a separate VPN subscription for my other OS before I do this so I have it on a separate account (not sure yet).

Please be honest with your answer.
