Hey, I’m having a problem with my Syno Cluster and my Macs accessing via SMB3.

I’m not sure if it’s a Synology, Apple, or some other issue, which is why I’m posting here for now, since the problem only affects Macs.

Here is my infrastructure in short

Synology cluster consisting of 2x RS3617xs+ and freshly updated to 7.2 -64570 update 1. Permission to the folders is granted with a Microsoft Active Directory and groups are authorized to the folders. The users log on to the cluster with their domain data.

Until the 7.2 update everything worked fine, no matter if AFP or SMB.

With the update to 7.2 I finally wanted to disable AFP and changed it to SMB on all Macs. With 7.1 there were no problems.

The problem

After updating to 7.2, users suddenly started reporting problems with their Photoshop crashing when saving files.

I was able to quickly identify the problem and then saw that users were allowed to create files/folders but not change or delete anything. When they do, the Finder hangs with the error message “Error 100057”. Sometimes it also tries to delete something for several minutes, doesn’t make it and then comes up with the error message “Error 100060”.

This problem exists only in a few folders and not in all. In addition, it also occurs ONLY with Macs (no matter which MacOS, have tested from 10.15 Catalina to 13 Ventura all) with the SMB connection. If I switch to the AFP connection, it works again. Also via DSM or Windows everything works without problems.

I have also tried to re-inherit the permissions, but that did not solve anything. Also a change to SMB2.1 did not help.

The problem occurs in the VPN as well as in the local network. All devices have already been rebooted once.

Current “solution”

My current solution is to turn AFP back on and run the affected users through it.

Has anyone had anything like this before or can tell me what it might be?
