BBC News NI has spoken to the intended victim, who we are calling Renas to protect his identity.
What a bizarre choice of name.
Apparently it’s Kurdish, so they wanted to imply to a small number of people that the person is a Kurd?
Whilst I can see how people might infer that, I doubt there was any desire to imply any ethnicity
If that wasn’t the desire, it’s a very odd name to choose. Did they just use a random name picker?
Is there any name that isn’t connected to a specific culture and wouldn’t trigger that reaction in some people?
Probably not. I didn’t mean to even suggest it would be a negative reaction necessarily. I just thought it was a very odd name choice and speculated as to why.
Had to open the article, as it reads a man was arrested for selling his house. The man was an immigration official selling an approval for asylum.
