Don’t forget the worst regionalism in the world. Even my communist Indian friend hates every other state with a burning passion.

then he is not a commie , he is just an idiot . I love all the states , every state is unique and has a different flavor in everything. Majority of Indians have stereotypes regarding each other but I won’t say they hate with passion except the Muslims ofcourse

Well, she’s young and influenced by her parents and upbringing heavily. I’m sure she’ll come around eventually in a few years.

By the way, is it common to see people from the northern states show more of a regional prejudice? Are the northern areas richer and protecting their wealth through discrimination, or is it just the cultural and religious differences between the states particularly messing with people’s perceptions?

I’m not 100% qualified to answer so I’d appreciate it if @[email protected] could provide additional context or correct any of the things I write as I assume that he’s more knowledgeable on these matters.

Now that the disclaimer is over, northern areas such as Maharashtra, Gujrat, Uttar Pradesh has been wealthier and more populous historically speaking for centuries if not millennia. They produced decades of prime ministers and political consensus that favored the north, making the wealth and infrastructure disparity even greater. There is also a difference of language, culture, and ethnicity - the darker southerners and asiatic easterners often go through ethnic discrimination as well.

With that being said, I wouldn’t explicitly say that the north is protecting their wealth through explicit discrimination. The natural tendency of capital is concentration, and there was more of it to begin with in the north at the founding of India. As the state hasn’t taken any steps to mitigate the tendency of the capital, the conclusion is inevitable.

Its actually the opposite in India , Southern states are wealthier , healthier in terms of GDP/capita and HDI respectively . Kerala has been ruled alternatively by Congis and CPIM , they have superb heath care system while Tamil Nadu has Dravidian politics which is against casteism , religious extremism . Karnataka and Andhra had similar policies but their politics is language driven and not about Hindutva . If you look to the Northern states , UP and Bihar are the worst , they had decades of caste based politics and poverty , the birth rate of these states is higher than the South because of religious sentiments , Hindutva and extreme unemployment. During Covid I think most people died in UP and in the northern states instead of the South. Maharashtra being one of the largest state is an unique case , while Mumbai has higher GDP than most of Indian states , the inequality is very much high and eastern parts of Maha. still lives in relative poverty w.r.t west where we have Pune , Nashik , Mumbai and all other industrial belts.

I knew that my take was going to be wrong but I didn’t know it was going to be this wrong. This is what I get for passive information osmosis slop style of knowledge. Thanks for the correction comrade.
