They are probably referring to distros that for legal reasons don’t include things like Codecs or proprietary drivers and stuff… and then you need to first research how to manually install those, after figuring out that you even need to do that at all…
If I am coming out of a coma, I can use windows. It’s labeled clearly, functionality is in obvious places and functionality is simplified and streamlined
I need to take courses on how to use Linux, and that’s with its most basic and user friendly distro.
The fact I have to learn how to “properly use it” means I never will. Why the hell would I waste my time learning how to use it when the benefit to the average user is non existent?
That’s exactly the issue… you need to properly use it. Most people don’t, and can’t be bothered to when Windows is just pre-installed and mostly doing its job alright…
