Thanks for trying to post this latest news post for STO, @nobodyspecial
I noticed you tried posting in a couple times. If you’re still interested in experimenting with posting it, try posting once more as a link (“Add new link”). It should automatically pull in some of the text from the post and bring in a thumbnail too.
Let me know here if you want any help with that or if you like it how it is.
And, thanks again for posting! (I’ve really appreciated your posts and comments throughout the various magazines we seem to have in common!)Thanks for the tips! I got an “error 50” both times, so was quite surprised anything posted at all. I’ll remember to use “add a new link” next time, this will have to do for now.
So the ships aren’t the most interesting, and really overshadowed by the 10th Anniversary pack. But you do get 5 previously limited ships for $150 or so, which is more or less standard C-Store pricing. And the D7 can run Surgical Strikes with Recursive Shearing, which is a pretty potent combination. Not a terrible choice if you have the funds and want to go for the classic ships theme.
I was greatly disappointed by this pack. Yes, it’s good that it’s only 3 choices, and yes it’s good that one of those is a multi-choice. But unfortunately I have already bought these ships via their legendary versions. I’d say that goes for anyone willing to spend the big bucks on a Mudd pack – they’ve likely already splurged on the legendary pack.
Sure, the slightly different seating makes for minor differences in performance and DPS. Thing is, none of these are top of the ladder material. So the reason to fly them is space barbie, and I already own the barbie/console/trait.
This makes two Mudd packs in a row I’m going to skip and feel I’ve missed out on absolutely nothing.
I’m tempted because the D7 is one of the few ships that can have Recursive Shearing and Surgical Strikes, and because one of the first posts that I ever got deleted on Reddit was being excited about the Walker being added to STO - it was before we really knew anything about Discovery, and the post was removed because it wasn’t related to STO. 🤪
I was looking for the firing mode scaling comparison but couldn’t find it. IIRC, like other specialist firing modes, only III is “good.” There’s just too much drop-off going from III to I on surgical strikes – a 40% crit severity and 100% cat1 reduction. I’m fairly sure BO3 will handily outperform SS1.
Still not even a tiny bit tempted. Maybe it’d be fun to play with SS1+RS3 in elite content, but not $150 worth of fun. My resolve might crumble if they do a 75% off sale on this bundle though.
