My save files are saved as Compressed Archive Folders. Within them are JSON files. The folders don’t show up. If I copy it as a path, it says “There was an error with loading that chat file.” If I attempt to load the JSON file contained inside, it says “Unknown save file format.” I use an ASUS laptop, Windows 11, Chrome.
If these save files are unrecoverable, it would be a pain to redo everything, but it could be worse. I’ve tried loading multiple files as well. I searched for other posts, but all I found was that a patch was made, although it isn’t working for me.
There have been quite a few reports about importing issues, but often without enough info to track down the cause, so thanks for reporting this, and if you can help me out by providing some more details here I’ll definitely be able to solve it.

Can you explain how/why you’ve “opened” the archive? Is Windows not allowing you to simply click the archive, and import it? I tested on Windows 10, Chrome by exporting a file, and then clicking the import button, which opens the file selection dialogue, then I double-clicked on the file, and it imported correctly. Can you explain step-by-step what you did to reproduce the issue?
I went to the perchance website. I went to the AI chat section. I clicked the “load a chat” button. The archive files didn’t show. I went into File Explorer, copied the most recent Compressed Archive Folder save file as a path (and others later to make sure it wasn’t just a bug with one file), and attempted to load that file, which gave me the error message saying “There was an error with loading that chat file.” If I instead pasted the file path into the top bar, viewed the JSON file inside, and selected to load that, it gave me the error message saying “Unknown save file format.”
Entire open prompt, showing none of the Compressed Archive Folders:

To answer your question, I cannot click the Compressed Archive Folder directly.
It shows it requires these file types:
As I was typing this, I selected the “All Files” button. I selected the Compressed Archive Folder (Which appeared this time since I selected to show all file types), and it still gave me the error saying “There was an error with loading that chat file.” Let me know if you need any more info, since at the moment I’m out of ideas.
Which A.I. chat are you using, the old or new format? I just checked the old format (I had an old chat saved in it from before I switched) and tried exporting it. It named the file for me, and didn’t have those export options. Your files show “perchance-character-exports”, which is what happens when you export characters from the new interface.
Make sure you’re importing them into the new interface as well, using the “Import” button. Also, you can click the save icons in each thread to export just that thread and the characters in it.
That worked! I saved them from the new format, and tried importing them from the old, at least that’s what it seems like.
