Doctor here. I see a lot of kids (mostly perfectly well). And when I ask them questions I see a pattern to their parents’ reactions. Too many parents don’t let their kids speak for themselves. Basic questions. Date of birth etc. They jump in before the kids have a chance to respond (I’m quite pointed that I’m addressing the kid each time - eye contact, facing them, using their name). Sometimes the parents will even (mostly jokingly) scold them for not speaking up. I see kids start to respond and get cut off. I’m not talking about kids who can’t because of nerves (obviously I understand kids are nervous at the doctors office).

I understand parents don’t want to waste my time. But it only takes a second and does their confidence great. I’m happy to wait.
