I’m pointing out how absurd it is that we’d be giving money to people who wouldn’t even notice the payment because they can already buy everything they need.
Which is why class-based redistribution is better. The people it leaves out (Oprah) wouldn’t notice. The people it includes (a homeless queer white kid, or an asian-american couch surfing who can’t afford their meds) would notice.
It automatically gives to those who’ve been harmed the most, and need it the most. It doesn’t give money to those who already have enough, so costs for the program could be smaller and more targeted.
