The Just Stop Oil protestors who threw tomato soup at Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” were sentenced to prison last week, @ArtNews reports. Phoebe Plummer was sentenced to two years and three months in prison and Anna Holland, to 20 months. The painting was behind glass, but the frame suffered minor damage. Many in the art world pleaded against jail time for the pair in a letter organized by Greenpeace UK and art collective Liberate Tate that described the soup-throwing as belonging to "the well-established tradition of creative iconoclasm.” Here’s more.

It would have been appropriate if Museum officials simply removed the art work to a saferplace and just left those 2 idiots there for a couple of days. Food? Water? Potty Break?
