Your average person isn’t engaged in insider trading.

A lot of it is because the area is generally economically stable because of the government and there’s decent sized segments of generally-higher-paying jobs like tech.

Fair point, but I’d be curious to see if these are still the highest once you remove all of the reps that are required to own residence in DC (that make a minimum $174K a year)

Edit: I appreciate the feedback from people living in the area. Always nice to learn new info, even when it challenges assumptions.

As a resident in the area, it is far more than just the reps and their staff. I’d wager they’re a tiny blip if anything.

Defense/defense contracting is a huge source of generally decent paid employment — though I’d bet the management of these companies are taking in bank 😅

Actual members of congress are very few in number and aren’t generally the wealthiest people in the area. I doubt it would have much impact.

I grew up in this area and while most people I knew made a comfortable living, the vast majority of people are working white-collar professionals, not capitalist owners or politicians.

Nothing requires a member of Congress to own a residence in DC…

Most rent, a ton basically rent frat houses and split with other reps, and several just sleep in their offices during the week before going home on the weekends.
