Fired up some old classics lately, Deus Ex and Homeworld, though I guess the remaster isn’t an “old” classic but a classic nonetheless.

Last time I played Deus Ex I was a kid and all the stellar writing, worldbuilding and lore went right over my head, but plating it now as a crotchety 31 y.o man, I really appreciate it.

As for Homeworld, I played the original homeworld when I was about 12 or so and didn’t get far, but again, amazing story, good game play, it’s a damn shape it isn’t more popular.

Ok, so my 21 yo son loves the first DeusEx game but I just can’t get into it. The janky combat is off-putting for me. The story is great though, I’ve watched others play it in videos.

I too just replayed the Homeworld remaster. Love its 3D RTS in space theme. I reach a point where I can’t win though, about 6 levels in, and just… I don’t know. Move on to another game.

DeusEx was janky even when it came out, don’t worry it’s not just you. I remember playing it back in the day and it definitely took getting used to. It was one of a kind. That’s part of it’s charm though I think.

Homeworld wins so much on it’s presentation and gameplay, sound, everything… And then there’s a difficulty wall in it that smacks you in the face. It’s one of those “I love that game but could never beat it” games.
