Taxes are different, CRA can just straight up take your money if you owe. The people I’m familiar with are pensioners, the bailiff has an order to garnish their pension payments but its not automatic, so long as the two get to an ATM first thing in the morning and withdraw the whole amount that was deposited there’s nothing for the Bailiff to seize.

You don’t have to pay your parking tickets in BC. The provincial Community Charter that governs municipal bylaws and operations, there’s nothing in that piece of legislation that allows for things like property liens, credit score impacts or forced collections on parking tickets. A city could tow and impound a vehicle with too many parking tickets if caught in the wild, but really if you’ve racked up a ton of municipal parking tickets its cheaper to go to ICBC and request new plates for $30 and start with a fresh slate.
