So, based on all the recommendations I read on Lemmy, I decided to dump 22€ into a game I knew absolutely nothing about (except that you explore an open world solar system, which is the type of game I love).

After about 5 hours of game time, I was disappointed. Sure, it’s a nice fantasy world and all, but I wasn’t invested and getting frustrated cause I just kept dying in random places I tried to check out.

Holy shit, that changed. I now want to know EVERYTHING about this world.
No idea how the devs did this, but it feels like you’re playing through the story exactly as it was meant to be played, no matter where you go first.

After 5 hours I thought I had figured out what there is in the game to see and do (fly somewhere, collect hints, connect the dots, find out more about the world). It felt static, like an unchanging canvas you slowly have to uncover.

Then something suddenly happened while I was just sitting out in space away from everything to fix my ship, and that showed there’s a lot more to discover than I thought.

I’m having a hard time thinking of anything that might randomly happen while floating out in space.

Unless you somehow drifted into the Stranger or something.

        Can you be more specific?

          Spoiler

I did some stuff on Ash Twin, possibly took something. I also activated a part on the gravity gun.
Then when I was out in space, I drifted into something that looked like a black hole (space was distorted). And then I was in a parallel universe where all the planets looked different. There was no settlement on the starting planet.
And then the stars started raining down and a huge glowing sphere engulfed everything.

          I honestly don’t know.

Ah, I see. I’m honestly surprised it took 5 hours of gameplay before you saw the great glowing engulfer for the first time.

            spoiler

Most people see that in 20 minutes, give or take.

You must have been dying an awful lot😉

Keep playing! You have so much more to uncover and it only gets more exciting as you go.

Yes, I also have ADHD, so those 5 hours were played 15 minutes at a time, because I often get distracted and start doing something else.

I’m glad to see you stuck with it and started to enjoy it! It’s a delightful little game that’s both complex and simple in it’s own ways. It’s so, relaxing, and genuinely enjoyable ask throughout.

Except the angler fish. Fuck those angler fish.
