You haven’t been paying attention. They just ousted the guy that wanted to turn brazil into a dictatorship.

Lula is a leftist from the labor party.

You are spreading misinformation. The article in post states:

“If Putin decides to go to Brazil, it will be the courts who decide whether or not he will be arrested, not me,” said Lula da Silva at a press conference in New Delhi.

The president of Brazil had previously said Putin wouldn’t be arrested if he travelled to the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. “If I’m the president of Brazil and if he [Putin] comes to Brazil, there’s no way that he will be arrested,” said Lula da Silva.

It is interesting that Bloomberg is the one acting hysterical over things in the world going against Washington Consensus. There is a lot of ambiguity in what has been said, even after correction.

You do realize that law enforcement is limited by jurisdiction and national law enforcement reports directly to the executive of the country. This is how the USA handles hosting criminals, and even electing them.

And no… Washington consensus… Brazilian law.

No, Washington Consensus. Bloomberg is a US government shill tabloid and wants Russia to be balkanised and subjugated. Anything opposing Putin AND Russia is always going to be a pro-US/NATO terrorism talking point.

It’s not his decision really. In Brazilian legislation, unlike many countries, the president is not the one who rules the country. He has very little power actually, his main purpose is to be the leader of his party and a public figure for diplomatic relations. That’s why just a couple days ago he backed off with this statement and said it is up to judiciary to decide.
