I’ve noticed a lot of downvotes on any posts here.

I’ve noticed it too, and I think it could be due to a variety of factors. First, downvotes are a bit more visible on Lemmy, since some interfaces show upvotes and downvotes separately.

Secondly, it’s clear that upvotes aren’t balancing out downvotes, which may be because this community is smaller, with fewer people making the migration from Reddit, and they may miss new posts due to early downvotes.

Finally, there are various reasons for downvotes appearing in the first place. A flurry of downvotes seems to come early on, which is a consequence of Lemmy’s ranking algorithm putting newly posted stuff quite high. Combined with the fact there seems to be more of a tendency to browse by “All” on Lemmy, that leads to lots of people outside the community seeing it early on, many of whom may disagree with Christianity.

The broader Lemmy userbase seems particularly opposed to Christianity, especially since there are several instances in support of communism to various extents, which has historically been hostile to organised religion. There were also plenty of atheists on Reddit too, many of whom have migrated here, but I suppose the way Reddit sorts and the size of the Christian communities over there reduced the impact.
