The pirates at microsoft are raising the price of office 365 subscription rates. Old rate: 1280. New rate: 1490/month.

    That sucks. I hate subscriptions! Inflation sucks and affects product prices, but it is somewhat understandable.

    But why should a software subscription’s price have to increase, too?

      The underlying costs to make the software probably went up too. Things like hardware, energy or personnel costs

        Enough to justify a 20% (approx) increase? I think not. This is just corporate greed.

      I think it’s because they just can.

      Especially in a more conservative society like Japan that has deep roots in the windows ecosystem (love for excel comes to mind). What other alternatives would the average office worker use? There’s no way I could ever convince my boss to move to Linux, OpenOffice / LibreOffice
