I am sure there’s a few of these types of posts in here. I would like to be a constructive part of this sub as I recently switched to iPhone.
Apple got my attention with the usb-c port and always on display. I never have had an iPhone before and the closest thing I ever had to iOS is a 1st generation iPod Touch. Seriously.
I am coming from a Pixel 6 Pro and before that a Pixel 3 XL (my favorite phone so far). The Pixel 3 was perfect for me. The Pixel 6 Pro was starting to really annoy me. Most notably when “losing towers” I had to restart the damn thing to get them back. It’s weird and angered me. Also the bluetooth issues I have with Pixel 6 - arg. I hate Samsung’s UI so that was out as an option and no other brand with Android excites me. My fiancee has always had an iPhone and to be honest, it was quite a mystery to me whenever I looked at it. But always admired the hardware and the basic look of the iOS.
Between Google giving up on nearly everything they develop and honestly, wondering if they really no longer have a vision for their products anymore, I looked towards iPhone for my next phone. It’s hard to be “all in” on a company that starts and stops so many projects/products. It’s really made me gun-shy on anything they offer anymore. And I have google hubs and mini’s all around my house and will be relics before too long I seems.
I got the iPhone 15 Plus. I sort of was talked out of the iPhone 15 Pro due to its recent heating issue by the dude at the store. So I miss out on the always on display. But I like the size of the iPhone Plus so I have zero remorse.
Coming from Android, the transition has been a little “fun” shall we say, but every day I find myself understanding the gestures required to operate the thing and slowly removing my android gestures from my muscle memory.
Long story longer: I love this phone. Here’s my favorite stuff so far.
- Face ID. I thought I would miss my fingerprint scanner from Pixel 6, but Face ID is awesome. I found it even works with a few of my apps. I wasn’t even sure it was working at first because I don’t even notice it happening, my phone would just be unlocked. I had to angle it away to see if it would stay locked and it did. Simply flawless.
- Apple’s native apps. I was an Apple fanboy (except iPhone) back around 2005-2015 and used macbooks and ipads and found all the apple software to just be next level to Windows. The apps I think are great (Safari, Mail, contacts, etc.). I am weird in a way that I like to use Apple apps (or Google apps on android) instead of 3rd party stuff.
- Magsafe. Holy cow this is awesome. I ended up getting a little puck for a charger and it just clicks into place and starts charging. No more mis-aligning your phone on a wireless charger and waking up to a low charge. I hope to get a magsafe compatible mount and charging block (whatever they are called - I guess I can’t say the “b” word here). I mean, they could almost not even have a port on these phones in the future (probably won’t someday).
- As dumb as this sounds, I really like iMessage. Slick. Plus, I am blue now! LOL
- Social media apps ARE better on iOS. I thought this was a myth. But I really like them on iOS vs Android.
- The camera is just as good, if not better, than Pixel based cameras (I don’t have experience with Samsung). I really enjoy taking pics with this phone more so than the Pixel.
BUT, damn iOS seems sort of a mess with notifications. My one and really, as of now, my only gripe. I don’t miss the Always On or Fingerprint Scanner like I thought I would. I rarely used Split Screen and honestly found it to be a hassle as some apps didn’t even support it so that was just frustrating anyways.
So I am all in and am getting an Apple Watch for my iPhone as I do workout and want to really start tracking stuff like sleep and my workouts.
If you read this far, thanks. I am really excited about using this phone and learning even more than I already have. Just had to share my excitement. Pleasantly pleased.
