Are there tutorials? What minimum equipment would I need to host a small community?

Yeah for sure, but all it takes is some curiosity and commitment. The best way to learn self-hosting is getting a Raspberry Pi and self-hosting some stuff at home as practice. Pi-Hole, a VPN, Nextcloud, etc. There’s no shortage of things to host on a Pi and tutorials on how to do it.

Btw a lot of people will take about using a raspberry Pi, but you don’t have to. They are just a relatively cheap, small unit of computing. You can use any kind of computer for self hosting though. If you have an old laptop, desktop etc, use that, rather than buying a Pi. And if you do want to buy a small computer like a Pi, they are not the only option. There are loads of Small Board Computers (SBC) out there. Check out AliExpress too. Good luck with your journey :)
