Just watched a trailer. This looks very, very weird. lol

Gotta Protectors is a great “2D Musou” game, Bloody Vampire is a fun Metroidvania style game with bump combat, Legend of Legacy is my favorite SaGa game (it’s not a SaGa game) and The Starship Damrey is a short first-person horror adventure game.
That’s all I could think of at the moment. All except Legend of Legacy are download-only games, so they are lost now.
I don’t even remember the last part of that song. Maybe the stages were just that short? Or maybe it was all just too damn long ago.
Yeah, another remake feels “too soon”. This is about the time they’d usually announce their next mainline game, so this is what I’m expecting. Not that I’d be disappointed by another remake. I’ll take anything.
Is anyone even able to keep up with all these Atelier releases? I don’t really want to complain, these games are usually great, but I’m so far behind on the series. lol
Anyway, I’m expecting this will be a proper new game with a new character. If they’re announcing it now, the JP release should be late this year or early next year, I guess?
That’s a nice chart. As far as I can tell, everything seems right. It would probably be of interest for many people if it also showed which of these are (or aren’t) available in English.
I wonder what kind of game they could be working on. I can’t really come up with any good idea.
It’s also nice to see he basically confirmed a Western release of Kuro no Kiseki. But then again “when” was always the bigger question for those games. I hope we also hear something about the Western release of Ys X soon. Maybe after Nayuta is out?
Does La-Mulana count as a Metroidvania? If not, exchange it for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. 😁
Sadly most of the really short games I can think of were download-only games, so they are lost now. But if you don’t care, I’d definitely recommend the already mentioned Attack of the Friday Monsters. I really liked Ikachan which is very short (under an hour), it was made by the same person who made Cave Story, I think. I could be wrong about that. Bloody Vampire also was a nice and simple Metroidvania style game.
As for actual retail games, I guess the Kirby platformer games would fit that description. The 3DS ones, especially Triple Deluxe, are some of the better ones in the series. The Mario & Donkey Kong games are also rather short, but really nice puzzle games.
Best worldbuilding: Easily the Trails series, there just isn’t anything other like it. Best character writing: Best I could think of was Grandia, maybe? Best premise: Star Ocean: The Last Hope had a great premise (which, of course, like so often, it stole from Star Trek). It didn’t do much with it, though. Best scenarios: Dragon Quest VII, the overall story in Dragon Quest usually isn’t anything special, but the sub-stories in each of the towns are great and 7 is king among the DQ games. Best overall story: Terranigma is what stood out the most for me here.
