  • The depreciation is lower on the m340i. The insurance is moderately higher, but I’d recommend checking a quote with your insurer - it wasn’t THAT bad for us to make the jump (clean record, young-ish professional, married).

There aren’t going to be that many more truly amazing, non-hybridizdd inline-6’s. I think that if you can swing it, now is the time to do it. I’m sure there will be really cool things in the future, but this is the end of an era.

  • I own a 330i and m340i (long story). On work commutes, the 330i gets 37mpg, the m340i gets 32mpg. The m340i is significantly louder, and while they have the “same suspension” (M-sport on the 330i, and both have adaptive), the m340i rides MUCH harsher. Same wheels, tires.

I love both cars. That being said, the 330i is probably a better commuter; 255hp (underrated) can get up and go when needed, and the softer, quieter ride goes a long way. The m340i is a LOT more fun, and is my preferred drive, but there’s definitely a tradeoff.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either car, but I would say that a 330e, 330i, and m340i all have very different characteristics, and it’s valuable to drive all 3 to determine what suits you.
